How it works
Press Clock In when you start work. The timer begins counting and the tab title shows your running total, so you can see it without switching back. Press Clock Out when you finish, and the shift is added to the list below with your daily and weekly totals updated.
If you step away, press Start Break. Break time is subtracted from that shift automatically, so you do not have to remember how long lunch took.
It keeps running when you close the tab
This is where most browser-based timers fall down. Rather than counting seconds in the page, this clock records the actual moment you punched in and works out the elapsed time from that. Close the tab, lock your phone, restart the machine — when you come back, the timer shows the correct total.
The same design means a throttled background tab or a sleeping laptop cannot cause drift. Browsers slow down timers in tabs you are not looking at, which quietly loses minutes from naive counters. Because the total here is recalculated from timestamps every time the page becomes visible, it is always right.
Fixing a punch you got wrong
Forgetting to clock in is normal. Every recorded shift shows its start and end as editable boxes — type a corrected time in the same shorthand the rest of the site accepts (9, 930, 5p, 17:30) and the totals update immediately.
If an end time lands before its start, the shift is treated as crossing midnight rather than rejected, so night shifts correct cleanly. To remove a shift entirely, use the cross at the end of its row.
Sending your shifts to the time card
A running clock tells you how long you worked. It does not tell you what you are owed once overtime rules apply. Send to time card takes this week's completed shifts and drops them into the time card calculator, laid out Monday to Sunday, where you can apply federal, daily or California overtime rules and add your pay rate.
Breaks are carried across as minutes, and if you worked two separate shifts in one day they arrive as a split shift. It replaces whatever is currently in the time card, so you will be asked to confirm first.
Your shifts stay on your device
There is no account and no server. Punches are written to your browser's local storage, which only this site can read, and nothing is transmitted anywhere. That has one consequence worth understanding: your shifts live in this browser on this device. They will not appear on your phone if you clocked in on your laptop, and clearing your browsing data will remove them.
If your hours matter — and they are your wages, so they do — download the CSV at the end of each week as a backup. It is ungated, like everything else here.
A time clock is not a legal record
Use this to keep your own independent record of the hours you worked. It is genuinely useful to have one: if your paycheck looks wrong, contemporaneous notes of when you started and finished are far more persuasive than a recollection weeks later.
But your employer's official timekeeping system is the system of record for payroll. This is your copy, not a replacement, and it does not submit anything to anyone.
Tips for accurate tracking
- Punch at the moment, not at the end of the day from memory. The whole value of a running clock is that it removes guesswork.
- Use the break button rather than clocking out and back in, unless the gap really is two separate shifts.
- Add the page to your home screen on a phone so it opens in one tap.
- Export weekly, and keep the CSV somewhere you will still have it in six months.

Common questions
Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?
Yes. The clock records the moment you punched in and calculates elapsed time from that timestamp, so closing the tab, locking your phone or restarting the computer does not affect the total. When you return, the correct time is shown.
Is this time clock free?
Completely. There is no account, no email capture and no limit on use. Downloading your shifts as CSV does not require signing up either.
Where are my shifts stored?
In your own browser, using local storage. Nothing is sent to a server. That also means your shifts are tied to that one browser on that one device, and clearing your browsing data will erase them.
What if I forget to clock in or out?
Edit it. Every recorded shift shows its start and end time as editable boxes. Type the correct time and the totals update straight away, or delete the shift entirely with the cross on its row.
How do I track my lunch break?
Press Start Break when you step away and End Break when you return. The break time is deducted from that shift automatically, and shows on the row as a minus figure.
Does it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. A shift that starts at 10:00 PM and ends at 6:00 AM is counted as 8 hours rather than treated as an error, both when clocking normally and when you correct a time by hand.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. The page is built mobile-first and you can add it to your home screen so it opens in a single tap, which is the point if you are clocking in at the start of every shift.
Can my employer see this?
No. Nothing leaves your device, and nothing is submitted anywhere. This is your own private record, separate from whatever timekeeping system your employer runs.
How do I work out my pay from my shifts?
Add your hourly rate in the options panel for a running weekly figure, or press Send to time card to move this week into the time card calculator, where overtime rules and gross pay are applied.
